I was having a problem getting my USB ports to work and be
recognized (Hub and Controllers): to even show up in
Device Manager.
I reloaded Windows 2000 operating system. The machine in
question is a Dell Dimension XPS T650r
I performed a Windows 2000 upgrade with my same OS CD (not
the clean install). That also did not seem to bring back
the USB, but after deleting residual yellow-icon
error-ridden IOMEGA USB controllers coming off of the
SCSI/RAID controllers section of the device manager tree, I
did get USB Hub and Controllers back after a terrible
reboot in safe mdoe.
However, my operating system is stuck in super slow motion,
whether in safe mode or normal mode. It is barely booting
up and I cannot even move my mouse, except to move it and
wait for 20 seconds, move it and wait for 20 seconds. It
seems like some kind of serious system threading problem.
I can only interact only every 20 seconds for the briefest
of milliseconds.
Here are some error messages about missing dlls from the
dynamic link library that I had when reloading Windows
2000, which I also suffered when I had first loaded Windows
2000 a couple of years back. I added them back by
downloading them from a dll website, same as last time.
They went away just like last time, but they may be part of
the problem. I don't have these files on my other machine
Dell Dimension XPS T550. They don't seem critical, but the
error messages are annoying. I think they are IE related.
Both machines have the same IE version.
Estier2.dll
Eshared.dll
There is a new error message that sounds something like
this one below. This one I cannot find nor solve. I could
be more specific if my operating system were not stuck in
super-slow-stuck mode.
LCRegisterServer Missing.
The only good news is that in
super-duper-slow-motion-almost-stuck-safe mode, I can see
the same USB controllers that I have on my XPS T550.
Am I making progress?
Is there a bootup utility disk I can create (like a Windows
95 bootup), or is there some setting in the BIOS to set the
machine to boot up to the Windows 2000 CD in the CD drive?
This is a thorny one. I may try reinstalling Windows 2000
yet again, if I can get the CD drive to operate.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Joe
