Tony Valderama

I have just upgraded the our server to a windows 2000
server and the couple of macs on or system can no longer
access the shared folders on the server nothing has
changed on the mac side and they used to work perfectly
with the old NT4 system but now they no longer work.

I have set up appletalk in the network properties and so
no joy

any help would be appreciated

Hi Tony!

You don't mention what happens when the Macs do connect. Do you receive any
error messages or do you see anything in the Event Logs? Also, you've
checked the Appletalk protocol, but are your File Services for Macintosh
installed and running?

From what I remember, Windows 2000 Server by default sets user
authentication from Macs to require Microsoft encrypted authentication.
Unless you have the appropriate UAM installed for each Mac, you'll be unable
to connect.

You can go into Computer Management and right-click on Shared or Shared
Folders (can't remember which) and you'll see an option to manage Macintosh
volumes. Here, you can set the authentication to allow Microsoft or clear
text authentication.

Hope this helps! bill

It says I need to check the enable mac access box in the
create share dialog but I do not have that option
available just permissions and security and neither of
these have that facility so I still need help

Dude,

First check control panels -> add/remove programs -> add/remove
windows programs -> Other network file and print services and make
sure that file services for Mac is checked, if not you need to install
it.

Next under manager -> services make sure that file services for
Macintosh is running. If you have more than one NIC in the machine be
aware that AFP will only run on one of them. Verify that appletalk is
running on your NIC.

Finally, back in server manager go to system tools -> shared folders
-> shares right click and select new. This dialog box should now show
check box to create and a location to name the Mac share.
