<windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

i just upgraded from ME to W2K. after that was completed
i downloaded an update file for Musicmatch JB using their
key. after rebooting i was very surprised to get the
following error message
<windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe corrupted or
missing please hit F8 to start troubleshooting and repair.

that would be fine except that hitting F8 doesn't work and
this error takes place about 2 seconds into the boot
cycle, so the computer simply does nothing.

i tried putting the W2K disk in the CDROM drive pre-boot
to no avail. it looks like i simply cannot do anything
with the machine. floppy drive isn't read in the boot
cycle either.

anyone have any bright ideas?
