Before this I has a problem where everytime I started my
computer, all that I saw was a blank desktop and
explorer.exe would not work. I fixed this by reinstalling
intert explorer. After this worked I thought my computer
was working fine until I clicked on the start button. When
I did this, the start button did not do anything and was
stuck. In addition to this, when I tried to open up a
folder, nothing would show up for a while, and then where
it would normally say C:\ on the left hand side at the top
it said %THISDIRNAME% and on the right hand side where the
folder contents were normally listed was a tiny square
with an x in it much like a broken image symbol in
internet explorer. If anyone can help me fix this, they'd
be my hero :-D!

Thanks

When you write "intert explorer", you presumably mean that
you re-installed "Internet Explorer". This may have been the
wrong thing to do. When your system shows a blank desktop,
Microsoft recommend that you adopt this solution:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;256194

This also gives a clue that you are infected.

With that assumption, it gives further rise to the fact that you do NOT practice "safe hex".
This means you are running NO AVP, no firewall, and none of the malware or privacy products.
If you are ignorant of the fact, the internet can be as exposed as you getting up each day
and going on your merry way, without worrying about putting your clothes on. Now I may be
all wet, but if I'm not, back up your computer right now, and make an ERD.

Ask for a good AVP, or router for Christmas. If I am wrong, accept my apology.

I like your comparisons - very much to the point!
