windows 2000 pro on raid 1

Howdy all! I have a motherboard made by Epox with a Via
Apollo Pro133A AGPset with a HPT370 onboard Raid chip as
well. I would like to have a pair of hard drives on the
raid mirrored, and the "un-raidable" (to create a word)
IDE channels would hold a CD, a Burner, DVD and Zip. It
works except that it requires a hard drive on one of the
first four IDE channels. Is this a requirement of W2k
Pro? or am I missing something? The boot process is set
to boot to the HPT370 as best as I can tell.

Thanks for your help!

Spent a long time fighting with my BIOS trying to get it
to select my RAID controller (an onboard Promise effort).
In the end I only managed to get it to boot, install etc.,
by removing my superfluous (i.e. not part of the RAID
array) hard drives from the conventional IDE channels and
putting them back as individual units on the RAID channels
after I'd finished installing Win2K.

The BIOS should have something like SCSI or RAID as the
first boot option, not IDEx.
