Windows 2000 Locking Up

We have computers running W2k SP4. Recntly I have had problems with users
machines locking up. The majority of the time, it locks up if they run a
shortcut from the desktop. If I put the shortcut in the task bar, the program
works fine. I have tried upgrading the memory and that doesn't seem to fix
the problem. I guess the only other thing would be the motherboard but I
wanted to post here to see if anyone else has seen or heard of this problem
before.

Thanks

Right click the shortcut icin, then click pproperties and see what file
path is indicated by the target and folder. Are they the same?

There not exactly the same. The target has the path with the executable file.
The start in just has the path without the exe file.
