Windows 2000 crashes with any flash.swf files

Could someone please shed a bit of light onto this issue? I have been
suffering from this for quite some time now and yet to find a (any)
solution.

Making things even worse is the fact that each time W2K re-starts after the
event there is a high possibility that I definitely will lose one or more
programs, thanks to file truncation or even directory removal!

Any help, guidance will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Alp

Can you describe exactly what you are doing to bring about this issue?

Any time I log in to Macromedia site, for instance, or try to open an html
document which has an embedded swf object. Basically if the web page
contains an swf, my system crashes. I do have both flash and shockwave
plugins installed but this still happens.
Which is always followed by W2K's scandisk on reboot and more often then not
resulting in deletion of files/directories....

The first thing I would do would be to delete the Macromedia components and
reinstall them from their website
1. Delete the C:\WINNT\System32\Macromed folder
2. Delete the related files in C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files

That is one of the risks you take when you use crapware like IE
for web browsing. Use a professional quality browser like
Opera, Mozilla, or Mozilla FireFox/FireBird and not only will
your web browser crash less often, it will also never drag the
OS down with it when it does crash.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your suggestion but do you think this "could" work since even
visiting a site with embeded swf content causes a crash?
I have lost quite a few applications so far and I would hate to go through
it again. Especially since the last time W2K autocheck (or what ever the
name of that nuisance is) messed up even the registry file (!) (SOFTWARE)
and W2K couldn't start afterwards!
Would you happen to have an alternative? Or maybe a way to stop the OS from
eating up even itself..

Thanks,

Alp

Hi Rob,

Thanks but unfortunately it happens with others as well! I do happen to have
a collection of browsers (Opera, NS4.73, NS7.1, Mozilla,..)
I guess the minute Windows senses an swf is being loaded, it takes its
defence.... and crashes the system.
Any other ideas (other than Linux or MAC)?

Alp
