How do you clear previous searches for files and folders
in windows explorer as there appears to be no clear
function? When you begin typing, previous searches are
displayed matching what you type.

.
Go to start>run>type regedit. Go the
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Explorer Bars\{C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-
00A0C9A83DA1}\FilesNamedMRU]...Under this key you will
see all your search words. Highlight the search words
(not the folder on the right, but the words on the left)
and delete them.

Hello,

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you want to clear previous searches for files and folders.

Please try the steps below:

Note: The suggestion involves editing registry. Please backup registry
before performing the suggested steps.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that
may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.
Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

1. Click the Start menu and then choose the "Run" menu. Input the command
"regedit" without quotes and press the OK button.
2. Expand the Registry path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer
Bars\{c4ee31f3-4768-11d2-be5c-00a0c9a83da1}\FilesNamedMRU.

3. Left click the "FilesNamedMRU". Click the "Registry" menu and then the
"Export Registry File" menu. Export the registry key as a REG file. This
operation is a backup operation.
4. Left click the "FilesNamedMRU". All search history will be listed in the
right panel. Delete all items in the right panel except the "(Default)"
item.
5. Quit the Registry Editor and check the results.

You can also follow the steps below to disable this feature (search
history):

1. Open Internet Explorer. Choose the "Tools" menu and then the "Internet
Options" menu.
2. Choose the "Content" table. Press the "AutoComplete" button.
3. Clear the "Web Addresses" item and the "Forms" item. Press the "Clear
Forms" button. Press the OK button twice.

I hope the above information helps. If there is anything unclear, please
feel free to let me know. Thank you and have a nice day!

Rashmi
