Windows 2000 Boot Up Problem

D

Dave

Got a laptop running Windows 2000 Pro, but the problem I
have is takes 4 attempts to get it to boot up properly.
It freezes on the first 4 attempts on the flash screen,
everytime it gets a little bit further on than the past
attempt.
On the 4th or 5th attempt it works fine. Once running the
laptop is fine. If you shut it down and leave for a few
hours the problem starts again.
So far I have reinstalled Windows 2000, updated the BIOS,
installed a new hard drive, updated all device drivers
and ran a software check on the RAM. None of which has
worked.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

This type of problem is usually caused by a hardware
issue, in your case by low temperature. You can confirm
this suspicion by shutting down the laptop, then rebooting
it while a floppy disk is in drive A:. It won't boot but it will
stay warm. Wait a few hours, then reboot it normally - it
will probably boot just fine.
