WIndows 2000 and XP Lock out

I have 2 laptops that were not added to my domain. One is
2k pro the other is XP pro. Both laptop owners have user
accounts on the network. The XP machine owner recently
changed her password and now the mapped drive she was
using to access a network resource is causing her account
to lock out. Also the 2k laptop owner changed his
password (about the same time) and needs to re-enter the
new password for every mapped drive he created. What
could be causing this, better yet what can I do to fix
it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

can you clarify your scenario - what is the specific issue - the user
account lockouts or the cached credentials / mapped network resources? What
service pack are you running on the XP / 2K clients?

On the face of it, i'd assume that the clients have mapped network drives
with the users previous credentials cached, consequently when you attempt to
connect to the network share, the previous credentials are being presented
and rejected, hence the user is prompted to enter them correctly. In windows
XP we have the the network password manager, from control panel, user
accounts, select "Manage my network passwords" in the left hand pane, and
you can manage network username/passwords from here". With Windows 2000 you
can user windows explorer, then from the tools menu, use the "map network
drive" option. From in here, use the drop down dialogue box to select the
previously mapped drive, then use the "connect using a different user name"
link to supply different credentials!

If i've got your scenario wrong, please clarify, and i'll try to respond.

Thanks
