Windows 2000 and Windows XP in two different discs

G

Gus

I have a computer with the disk: in one I have installed Windows 2000; in
the other Windows XP. When I want to use Win2k I connect the first disc;
when I want XP I disconnect it and connect the second one.

The fact is that I tried to add a BOOT.INI entry to allow both discs to be
connected at the same time. But Windows 2000 won't boot (it shows a blue
screen with a INACCESIBLE BOOT DISC error).

Is there any way or any application (boot utility) to allow this?

Thanks!

There's no supported method of doing what you want to do, namely because the
OS thinks it's on C: in each instance.

What is in your boot.ini? What are the parameters of the Stop 0x7b?

0x7B (0x81700450, 0xc0000185, 0x0, 0x0)
INAACCESIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

With Windows NT I could do this: just change the boot disc in BIOS and then
the boot disc is C (the other automatically is D).

Thanks.

Just an idea:
Use Windows XP retail CD, or download 6 Windows XP Setup
Boot floppies from Microsoft's website, and start Recovery
Console while both your hard disks are connected.
In the Windows XP Recovery Console use the Bootcfg Command
as explained in

http://www.jsifaq.com/subm/tip6100/rh6136.htm

to create a suitable boot.ini file in the root of
your "system" drive (the hard disk that you boot from with
ntldr & ntdetect.com files, of latest version for starting
WXP & W2K).
A different version of Bootcfg Command is included in
Windows XP (Command Prompt) but I am not sure about its
use in your particular configuration.
