Hi Kaushik

If you don't need to keep XP home you can perform a 'clean' install of XP Pro - depending on the type of XP Pro CD that you have - but you might like to backup any data files first for later use:

You can install XP Pro over top of XP Home without any problem, especially
if Home is running OK.

I would ask why you want to install Pro. It only has more security &
networking features than Home and Home will run any program that Pro will
run. This web site will answer questions as to which version of XP you
should run.

Unless you need the ability to join a Domain, IIS, or the extra security,
you may not need to upgrade to Pro. Functionality and stability are the same
except for the added features.
Do an upgrade, as upgrading to Pro from Home is almost the same as repair
installing Home. You can use the XP Pro upgrade version to clean install.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.

You can do an upgrade--install Professional on top of Home.
