After using spyhunter to remove some ad-ware programs my
internet exploer stopped working..

I had to re-install Windows XP (Prof)to get it back up

After the installation I went to windows update and
started downloading the updates (broadband) the downloads
went ok but the installation part took over 2 hours to
install. I had to download several times and each
installment tooks hours.

I never had this problem before and other (game installs)
worked fine, its just windows updates that take forever

Is it my computer?

Thanks for any help on this..

If you re-installed Windows XP Pro RTM (release to manufacturing) also
known as "Gold" or the original release, you need to be careful to do
the SP1a update first, then the SP1 roll-up update, and then whatever
other updates are offered. If you don't do updates in that sequence, you
will waste a lot of time.

Thanks for the quick response....
I don't know which update installed first..
I let the Windows Update choose the 1st download ..
it took approx 6 hours to do all updates in three
downloads..

Everything seems ok now...
Hope I never have to go through this again...

But if you do, always look for the SPx update first, then a rollup
update, then let WU do its thang.

You can also plan ahead by getting the latest SPx onto a CD and you can
download any follow-on rollup update and do all that updating before you
connect to the Internet. Be sure to enable the XP firewall before
connecting to the Internet.
