window position / can't move window

Suddenly, when the IE window is maximized, the top of the
window is about an inch below the top of the desktop, and
extends off the bottom of the desktop. Although I can't
get to it, my guess is that the area off the screen is
the same size as the strip of desktop showing above the
window.
I cannot move the window back "on screen" by dragging
the title bar. Only IE is this way; all other programs,
including Outlook Express, remain 100% on the screen when
maximized.

I have IE 6.0.2800.1106 and Win XP Pro with SP2.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
