Window Outlook file import duplication

I am reinstalling Windows XP Pro w/ Office and updates. I completely
reformated the harddrive. Before beginning I exported Outlook files to 'My
Documents' then copied to a CD. After reinstalling XP, Office and updates I
copied to Outlook foles from CD back to 'My Documents'. When I attempt to
import the files from 'My documents to Outlook I am recieving all kinds of
garbage and some errors. I have made several attempts with different import
settings. Sometimes the import process 'freezes' and Outlook becomes
Unresponsive (I exit w/ Task Mngr). Mostly the import process seams to keep
repeating and adds folders w/in folders w/in folders w/in folders w/in
folders, etc. Folders are being duplicated w/in folders in a circular never
ending process (I wonder if the dang thing will eventually exceed harddrive
capacity if allowed). These multiple levels of folders did not exist in the
exported files. Any help or ideas available?

Not that this a win Q
Niether Import/Export is the way to deal with native OL data, the process
loses settings & data
This Q & the method is posted daily on the MS OL groups

You may well have corrupted the data file in the origonal export process.
The file should be located on the HD, with the read only attribute off.
Within OL, File>Open>Data File..........browse to the location & OPEN the
data file

To backup / copy a data file; with OL *closed* locate & COPY the file

In case you're a little confused by DL's highly compressed
reply: He points out that this is a Windows newsgroup and
that you are likely to find Outlook experts in an Outlook
newsgroup. Remember to state your version of Outlook!

'Compressed?'
The correct method of connecting both old data and copying the data file was
given

I said "compressed", not "incorrect". For example:
"Not that this a win Q" = "Not that this is a Windows Question"

While your shorthand way of expressing yourself would be
perfectly understandable to yourself, it might be puzzling to
posters who have less experience with Outlook than you
have and none with your home-grown abbreviations.
