Window activation behaviour

Until recently I could activate a window on the desktop by pointing at it
and clicking. Now, for reasons unknown, If I point at a window it
immediately activates without the need for a click.

Please can someone tell me which setting I have to adjust to revert to the
former behavior.
 
Thank you for your input Peter. In fact I discovered that the behaviour was
due to the software settings for a new Nvidia graphics card recently
installed. I have now fixed the problem. There is nothing relevant in the
mouse settings.
