Windef and Live One Care

With Windows Defender being part of Windows Live One Care, all running in
real time..........
does the auto update in winloc, not take care of the updates in windef???

I understand there may be "new updates" for each program singularly, since
they are in beta testing, but it seems to me, that one "auto update" would
cancel out the need for the other, where one program is part of the other.
Does that make sense? (There I go thinking again!!!)

Happy Easter everyone!

They are not so deeply integrated, at least, so far. I think this is
probably intentional, since Windows Defender will become part of the OS in
Vista, whereas antivirus protection is still an add-on. I shudder to think
how much time and $ in legal fees has probably been spent by Microsoft
figuring out how to really take charge of having a real impact on viruses
and spyware without being taken to the cleaners by the anti-malware
industry.

At this point, the two apps communicate, but that's about it. OneCare can
trigger a WD Scan, and it knows when the defs are out of date--and probably
is able to trigger a check for updates, since that's done by the same app
that can trigger scans. WD scans are not part of OneCare Tune-ups, though.
