win98 - access to logon server has been denied

i've searched the knowledge base, technet, and this
newsgroup from 1998 up to the present but can't find the
right solution to our problem.

we have a windows 2000 Advance Server (SP4) + Exchange
Server 2000 (SP3) + ISA Server on one node. last week end
we faced a problem regarding the ISA Management. it is not
starting but from the background it is working fine. i
installed ISA Service Pack 1, and today morning we come to
know that only Windows 98 Clients cannot login in our
Domain Controller, which give the error message " The
domain Password you supplied is not correct, or Access to
your logon has been denied".

today i uninstalled the ISA Service pack 1 hoping this
would fix it but it didn't worked.

appreciate any replies.

Hmmmm. Is this your only server on the network ? Check with ISA server, that
your LAT tables are correct, so that isa binds to the right adapter for
internet access. Check your adapter binding order on your server to that
your internal adapter is first on the list. You may also try to install
dsclient on your Win98 boxes to see if this helps you solve the problem.
Also check http://support.microsoft.com/?id=272594 . For this you have to
contact MS PSS to get hotfix for your problem.

unfortunately i was unable to do what you recommend ISA 2K
doesn't work properly. what i did though was to reinstall
ISA 2K since, and i only noticed it then, the "fwsrv" is
not present in the services. after reinstallation and a
reboot things worked as they were. all Win98 boxes can
login and do their stuff.

however, this morning i came in early to check. we are
back to square one. :-(

shall investigate again and let the group nows what
happened. thanks for the reply.

well what do you know. there's a worm in our win2K and ISA
server. the first one was named "msmsgri32.exe" and
according to sources it was placed there by the
virus "RANDEX.D". the second worm was named "windoc.exe"
which apparently was left there when the previous admin
installed norton tools.

now everything is back to normal!
