Win32 Application

I am trying to install a program from a CD. The CD from which I tried
to install the program is just a copy of the original CD.

Now when I try to install the program by running the program's
'SETUP.EXE', Windows throws the following error:

Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

What does this error mean? Is there any way by which I can overcome
this error?

Actually I myself have got the original CD with me but copied the
contents of the original CD in a blank CD (just as a back-up) in case
the original CD gets corrupted in the future. In order to ensure that
the blank CD has been written properly, I tried to install the program
using the newly copied CD but Windows generated the above error!

Note that I can very well install the program using the original CD
without any problems.

Your original CD could have a copy protection system on it. Try copying
it with Alcohol 120% http://www.alcohol-soft.com/

Good Luck.

Use the original CD instead.

Barry, copyrighted CDs - can't they be written on other blank CDs?

How about copying the entire copyrighted CD to the hard drive, then
burning a blank CD with the just copied files from the hard drive &
finally deleting the files from the hard drive under such
circumstances?

BTW, how can a CD be made copyrighted?

Thanks

There are a number of copyright systems used on CDs and DVDs to prevent
their copying.
The original manufacture can do stuff like writing a VERY feint
"image", as well as the data, on the disc, and a CD copier can't
read/write the feint image successfully, but can write the data OK, and
so the copy not an EXACT copy.
There are many other copy protection schemes. You'll find details of
some copy protection systems on the Alcohol site.

Good Luck.

You wrote that you "copied the contents". Is that literally what you did,
or did you make an exact copy of the CD using a CD copy routine?

I am having the same problem, except that the discs I'm using are fresh off
the store shelf. I bought one program, had this problem, returned it for the
same program, had the same problem, returned that and got a completely
different program and still have the same error.

I'm curious as to what this problem is and what's causing it. I have
installed some programs since my last update with no problem at all. I've run
all the virus software, adware and spyware stuff and still get the same
problem.

In fact, if I click on anything on the CD, it gives me the error, but I can
watch DVD's or listen to CD's with no problem.

Suggestions?
