Win2K use of a shared fax

D

Dave Wilson

We have a windows 95 machineon which Microsoft Fax via its
associated modem is shared across the network.

The idea is that other machines - all Windows 2000 based -
can use this shared resource to send Faxes.

What needs to be done on the Windows 2000 machines to
allow this to happen.

Simply attempting to share the printer does not work and
it complains that it cannot download the driver.

What can we do ?

Regards

The Fax service included with Windows 2000 and Windows XP is stand alone,
single user, it cannot be shared nor can it be a client to the older MS Fax
service from Windows 95. It can act as a client only to the Shared Fax
Service provided by Small Business Server. Here are some group fax
services:

I have the same question and cannot find any help from
Microsoft. Either in on line chat or knowdedge base. It
was very simple with Win95 but no mention anyway of hw or
why the changed.

You cannot share fax printer in Windows 2000. SBS2000 supports shared fax.
From Windows XP onwards, fax can be shareable.

Thanks,
