Win2k server can't ping itself?

When I boot my Win2000 server (it's an AD DC), sometimes the networking is ok. But then other times, it will suddenly not be able to ping itself or perform nslookups. All that happens when I try to ping itself is it just hangs at the command prompt... no error message or anything. I also have trouble with my clients ocassionally being unable to validate. I'm out of ideas :(
