Win2K sees usb drive at work but not at home

Hi
I work on a Win2 k station at work and also at home.
I have a usb portable harddrive which I take back and forth.
At work if I leave the drive on but shut computer down, after shutting down
computer at night and rebooting in the morning, the usb drive is detected
normally and is available as one would expect.
However, if i'm at home, leave the drive on, shut the computer down, reboot
computer, it does not see the drive and the usb 'manager' icon in the
taskbar shows a usb hub with yellow question mark.
I have to turn drive off, then back on, and then windows sees the drive
properly.

The home computer has a usb2.0 card I put in it, the computer at work is
using the built in usb port.

I seem to recall reading of problems with some usb cards and the
implementation of the 'usb protocal'
It would seem to be a card problem. I'm assuming Win and mb bios is updated
Also check mb/system site for other updates
