Win2k SBS and IE6 / MSHTA.EXE issue

Dear All,

I have "inherited" support of a Windows 2K SBS Domain Controller, with
IE6 installed. It appears stable enough, however it does appear to have
an issue with IE6 and possibly MSHTA.EXE.

The Add/Remove applet in Control Panel won't launch, IE hangs when
displaying any web pages - it displays the title of the page in the
title bar, but nothing in the main window, although interestingly it
will open a local "test" HTML file fine.

Each problem appears to result in a hung instance of MSHTA.EXE.

The version/date of MSHTA.EXE in \WINNT\System32 is 6.0.2800.1106/29th
Aug 02, although there is another version in
\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386 of 5.0.3700.6699/17th Jul 03. (Interesting
version/date combination I thought!)

I've puzzled over this on-and-off now for some weeks, now. I've
reinstalled IE6 and the problem continues....

....I'd be interested to hear any other opinions on the subject.

Thanks,

Steve B.

We all know that you must be careful when changing the registry in any way
but this is what I would try. First do a back up then go to Start/Run/ type
in Regedit
then find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace
In the left pane find: {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} Value and
delete it. reboot and see if that works, if not just restore it back.

MAKE A BACK UP COPY FIRST PLEASE.
