Win2k Network Software deployment

Jill

I am part of a team supporting win2k networks across
various offices. As some offices have got two different
domains, when it comes to software deployment, it takes
ages to visit each domain and install software. Luckily,
we can access all the domains from our main office. Is
there anyway we could simplify the software deployment
across various sites in one go? Haven't used SMS? will
that help and how will it work??
pls help??
thanks

Hi Jill,

You can deploy the software using

Group policy - GP
System Management server - SMS

I have given the comparison table between group policy and SMS. Pick any
one of the method according to your business requirement.

Group policy
SMS

Scheduling is not possible Schedule is possible
Cant allocate the bandwidth Allocate the
bandwidth
Only .msi / .zap files used to install EXE files can also be
installed
No Software / Hardware inventory Software / hardware
inventory is possible.

For more information on group policy go to

guide/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/de
ployguide/en-us/dmebe_swi_lzpm.asp

To get more information on SMS go to

Thanks,
