Win2k "I give up"

R

Rick

I've done practically everything I could to Get the win2k
install past the splash screen with no luck!

1). Removed all cards from their slots
2). Unplugged both the k/m from the system at bootup
3). Moved the ram from slot to slot, used 64K, 128K and
256K respectively, Purchased New Ram!
4). Purchased a PCI Graphics Card rather then the AGP card
that was in the board.
5). Bought a new hard drive
6). Installed win98 and the system ran fine
7). reformated and attempted a re-install of win2k
8). reformated and installed win98 and then installed
win2k as a 2nd OS (win2k still wouldn't boot).
9). changed bios to every setting 1 by 1 and then back 1
by 1 with no success, then to default settings.
10). checked the board's jumpers
11). Purchased more beer.
12). Purchased more beer.

I'm going to go out and purchase a frigging new box, I
really would rather figure this thing out? so If anyone
has any last minute suggestions, pass them along.

I'm currently dropping win98 back in the box and going to
give it to my daughter , her question to me was? "Dad" is
it as fast as my laptop.. "LOL"

Thanks in Advance

Please go to Microsoft web site for the details about the
Win2K system requirement.
By the way, try change the CD.

8). reformated and installed win98 and then installed

You pretty well have to erase the hard disk and start afresh. Any
system file already present will just confuse it. Just wipe
everything and format so it has a completely clean start.

Greetings --

Have you made sure that your PC's hardware components are capable
of supporting Win2K? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility
List: (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp)

You should, before proceeding, take a few minutes to ensure that
there are Win2K device drivers available for all of the machine's
components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed for
Win98/Me. Also bear in mind that PCs designed for and sold with
Win9x very often do not meet Win2K's much more stringent hardware
quality requirements. This is particularly true of many models in
Compaq's consumer-class Presario product line or HP's consumer-class
Pavilion product line. Win2K is quite sensitive to borderline
defective hardware (particularly motherboards, RAM and hard drives)
that will still support Win9x.
