WIN2000 SP4

Just downloaded and upgraded win2k to SP4 and I can no
longer detect the CDROM Drive.

It still works fine because I hav loaded an additional
copy of my original WIN2K and all seem to be ok.

I am very nervous about reinstalling WIN2K "over" the
original operating system that is giving me the problem
with detectingthe CDROM

.... any ideas?

Yes the Firmware of the CDROM is up to date and yes I know
that it is pointless updating the drivers again and again.

I presume this means on partition D: ("drive, volume")?

You should be able to see the partition with the bad W2K on it, and should be
able to copy or move data from it onto D:. Then you could reformat and
reinstall, etc. (Reinstall of software will necessary, too.) Or continue
booting from the 2nd copy of W2k until you find a solution. Go to
http://support.microsoft.com, and search that site for help on your problem.

Thanks to DELL...

seems that SP4 did something or other to the upper and
lower limits of the DVD/CDROM in the registry...

Simple when you know how... delete them both and restart.
simple as that!
