Win2000 Pro 'Commemorative' Edition?

I am England-based. However I have been offered a Win2000 Pro 'Commemorative
Edition' operating system. It is fully boxed, with COA, but was bought from
and apparently distributed only in the U.S. market. I notice that the
booklets enclosed with the disk are printed in Ireland (usually the mark of a
European product). Is this normal for a U.S. only operating system, one
seemingly manufactured in Puerto Rico, or would these too expect to be
printed in North America? Am I being too suspicious or has this been put
together from other sources? Many thanks.

The Windows 2000 Commemorative Edition was given to employees at
Microsoft that worked on the product. It may have been distributed to
partners externally, but I am not sure. If you have reason to suspect
that the liscense is not valid or the COA is forged, you can call
Microsoft's piracy hotline for assistance: 1-800-RU-LEGIT.

Really appreciate this. The COA is, or seems, genuine, but then I'm not
altogether sure what I'm looking for. It's the Irish connection I don't
understand. Wouldn't an American product,, made solely for and in America,
ensure it's literature came from the same source? It doesn't necessarily
follow, I realize, and especially these days, but it seems odd when the remit
of Irish operation is to service the European market. Maybe I'm wrong? Anyway
thanks again Matt. If anyone can add anything I'd be glad to hear from you.

I should also say that the literature in question, the booklets printed in
Ireland, make no mention of the 'commemorative' nature of the software they
are designed to explain. I'd have thought they would.

I'd be very curious to know what the differences are between
this and "regular" Win2K Pro.

According to my would-be seller none at all. It's just a matter of packaging.
He's selling it fairly cheap because he says buyers in UK think U.S. software
will be incompatible, though he insists there is no difference.

Yes, it has the hologram. I've no doubt it's genuine. What I really want to
know is whether everything is part of the same, single package purchased
originally, or whether bits - like the literature printed in Ireland - have
been added to make it look complete. The Irish element interests me most
because their appears to be a contradiction in that a country which deals
with the European end of the MS operation should be involved with an
exclusively U.S. distribution. There may be an innocent explanation. I'd like
to find out.

I really think you have a legit copy. I have a package Microsoft Office XP Developer that I got from the Microsoft store. The box says, "Sold to a valued Microsoft Employee" something to that effect. I could sell it it's registerable and al that but for some reason I think I'd be breaking the rules. So I don't. What are the rules for Microsoft employess selling the things they have exclusive access to? I think that is your only concern. The Irish stuff may just be the way it is. I think you have a legit op sys there.

Thanks George. You may well be right. But he keeps saying how genuine it is,
whereas I don't want to know if it is genuine - I'm sure it is - but whether
everything was bought together as part of an original package. Now he isn't
answering my e-mails, so I'm suspicious. You've reassured me even so. Thanks
again.
