Win2000 freezes after connection a USB-Harddisk

hi,

can anyone gimme some hints about this problem:

Win2000 freezes after i connect my Maxtor 80 GB HD via USB. the usb-harddisk
works fine with Win98SE at the same computer. i use win2000 SP4 with all
windows updates.

i have a Gigabyte motherboard with intel chipset and i dont find a soultion
for this problem anywhere...that really sucks
