Win16 System Error

I had to uninstall some software programs along with my
Epson C80 printer and reinstall them. I did all of these
from the Control panels uninstall program. As this
removes the programs, messages come up saying the
following file may be used by another program. I may have
deleted some files that should have stayed on the system.
All reinstalled programs as well as the printer are now
working fine as is the computer.

I do have a problem though in that I can't install any
programs from some install disks that I was able to use
previously. When the disk is inserted the install will not
start and I get a system error message that reads as
follows.

"The Win16 Subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode,
DOSX.EXE must be in your AUTOEXE.NT and present in your
PATH."

Any help to correct this problem would be appreciated.
