Win XP / Win 2000 Network Shares Get Dropped

I have the following setup: WinXP Pro SP1 on a laptop, Win2000 Server
SP4 on a desktop. Both go through a D-Link DI-624 Router; the former
connects wirelessly, and the latter is wired.

I have a backup batch file to copy files from WinXP to a mapped
network drive from the Win2000 machine, but I get the dreaded "the
specified network name is no longer available" after a little while,
particularly when the script hits the biggest files to that point.

Here's what I've tried:
- Turning off auto-logoff & auto-shutdown of HD features in XP
- Running script without ZoneAlarm running
- Running script without Norton AntiVirus running
- Turning off unused Windows XP Firewall
- Setting Win2000 NIC Card to 100 Half Duplex

None of these helped at all--the script still tanks. Any ideas?

It is presumably a standalone server not active server 2K or a DHCP etc.
If so I believe there is a problem with the stability of the network
connection.
XP likes active server 2K I believe.

I've switched to FTP-based transfer across my LAN, but, while I get
farther with my documents, it still drops the connection after a
while. When I try to copy my mp3s, it drops right away. Does this
imply a NIC issue? When one card is wired and one is wireless, how do
you confirm they have compatible settings? I don't see a Media Type
option in my Wireless card config where I can set to 100 Half Duplex
or something like that.
