win xp SP2 takes ages to shut down and log off/in....

hi,

i have recently installed windows xp SP2 in my server machine which was
laying idle as we have latest servers recently procured. by the way this
server is having 10 GB SCSI and p-IV processor (year 2002 Make).

well, the installation did go fine and am working on it. but the real
issue came when using it... i thought that being an SCSI HDD, the compulter
would be a breeze but to my surprise... when i log off, i takes ages to log
off. it works fine when logged in once but to log in, it again takes ages.
why is this so... is it that xp is not being specifically meant for server
(in case) installation.

well, if there is any cure for this, pls suggest as this is really
something i never imagined. even to shut down the same scenarion come to play.

any help out there..

No, you can run XP on server hardware if you have the drivers. Go through
this shutdown troubleshooter:

thank u malke for the re.

as such, the contents on the link was of much use but i cant get the details
that i wanted. the fact is this computer is in workgroup and this
login/logoff is taking place between its own users, not in a network.

well, other thing is that this is freash installation of Xp SP2. when
installing itself, the logoff and login between adminstrator and local users
are taking ages. to say so, the shut down itself is too tooooooooooo slow.
almost 4 minutes

so, is it that i need some patches to fix this problem. this computer config
is as shown in the properties tab:

intel Pentium III processor, 256 MB RAM, 9 GB SCSI HDD.

so any help on this highlight...

Is this the same computer referenced in your other post? The one that you
upgraded from Win98 and don't have drivers for?

I can't help you find drivers - you're going to need to do that yourself. I
suspect that you shouldn't have upgraded this very old machine with
possibly unsupported hardware. Did you find drivers for the motherboard
chipset for XP? Or just hope for the best?

That's a very small hard drive for XP. You're going to run into problems if
you want to have more than a few programs installed. How much room is left
on the drive now? If it is under 2.5MB, this would explain the troubles you
are having.

Your RAM isn't really adequate for XP either. A machine with the specs you
provided might do for simple web surfing, email, and maybe a word
processor. It wouldn't be fast but could work - IF you have the correct
drivers installed.

You can try a clean boot, but you will need to solve all driver issues and
hard drive size first.

Otherwise have a local professional take a look at the machine.
