Just though I'd put my 2p (2c) worth in for the experience of others and
those still considering whether to install sp2. Recently installed Server
2003 with a number of Win98 and XP clients. Win98 ran just fine, nice and
quick. XP ran like a dog with two legs, KB articles gave some help but some
said wait until next sp that would include some hotfixes. One program that
used to run in 7 minutes took 1 hour after connecting to the new server.
Rather than pay £187 for a support incident thought I'd give sp2 a try.
Installed sp2 from the full download pack and the only problem I had was on
reboot where XP hung with a 'Please wait'. Gave it a couple of hours like
that then hard rebooted. No problems encountered so far and the XP clients
are back up-to-speed.
Hope this is of some use to those looking to make a decision about sp2
install.
