Win XP restarts before logon screen ??

Any advice appreciated

Desktop PC running Win XP Professional. Was running a
number of apps and accessing a Jaz drive at the time.
Performance degraded and system finally hung. Resorted to
powering off the PC and starting up again. PC now goes
through boot cycle but before the PC goes to the Logon
Screen, it reboots and does the same continuously now.
Have tried a number of things such as going back to "last
Good Configuration", Chkdsk in recovery mode and McAfee
virus checks, but with no affect whatsoever.
