WIN XP REPAIR INSTALL PROBLEM.......

My computer wouldn't boot up past the WIN XP Logo startup screen, so I used
my WIN XP INSTALL CD, chose INSTALL, then chose R for REPAIR......I was told
this would repair the problematic files that were not allowing my computer to
boot past the startup screen, and that I WOULDN'T LOSE ANY DATA........

the repair seems to have gone through everything, including putting my
product key. now windows goes past the WIN XP STARTUP screen and
goes to finalize the installation. It goes past:

-Collecting Information
-Dynamic Update
-Preparing Installation
-Installing Windows

Then at -FINALIZING INSTALLATION, the green status bar stopped at the status
point with 2 MINUTES LEFT!

I waited for 3.5 to 4 hours the first time, i restarted my cpmputer and let
it run again.......same thing happened at the 2 minute mark for 5 hours....i
restarted again, and now it's been 6.5 hours and counting.......

Is there anything I can do? I have noc clue what else to do.

MY MAIN CONCERN IS MY DATA.......I'M SO CONCERNED AND DON'T WANT TO LOST ANY
OF MY DATA FROM MY HARD DRIVE!

I'd appreciate it if someone could ease my worries here!

Thanks,
Mike

Now you see why everyone here stresses the importance of file backups
in a secure location! So, regardless what happens to the drive they
were on, you can still access them.
