Win XP Registry Corrupt

Hi there .. and thanx for taking a moment to review my situation. I am
dealing with a VPR Matrix computer that has OEM Windows XP Home Edition. It
has a corrupted registry. I went to the MS knowledge
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307545)
base to see how to fix this corruption and found a warning message that
stated that one should not do this if a computer has OEM Win XP. So I
stopped there.

How do you recommend I proceed with this? If I had a computer with a Win XP
CD, I could go through the repair functions as listed in the MS knowledge
base, but I cannot do that in this instance.

Thank you again.

If you actually have the OEM XP CD try a repair installation
XP REPAIR
.............................................................................

Boot from the CD or you can insert the CD while at the windows desktop but
when the setup screen appears, exit setup and reboot. If your system is set
to be able to boot from the CD, it should detect the disk and give a brief
message, during the boot up, if you wish to boot from the CD press any key.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

If you do NOT have a OEM XP CD maybe your system came with a recovery CD or
partition.
Read the manual that came with the system it will explain how to activate that.
But be sure you back up all of your files as a "recovery" usually sets
everything back to the way it was when you first bought it.

Hi,

It means, essentially, that you are at the mercy of the OEM and thier
restore media. You will have to follow whatever options the OEM gives you,
and often they are limited to a "restore to factory state".
