Win Xp Pro slow HDD response

T

Tim L

I've had XP Pro installed on my system for approx 1 year
and have all the critical updates installed. Just in the
last few days the HDD response is slow as molasses in
January. When I click on an app or try to select an open
window and do anything with it, the system takes 30 sec-1
min or more to respond. I haven't changed any drive
settings that I know of. I have also just defragged the
drives.

Both drives are 60GB WD ATA/100's, one master one slave.
Both drives are set up as NTFS but the second drive has a
4GB swap partition currently set up as FAT32. I have 768MB
DDR memory. I used Adaware to check for spyware and have
Norton AV updated and activated to scan for viruses. I
even noticed when I ran Norton AV this last time it took
2x-3x longer than normal to scan.

Is this a HDD problem or a HDD setting or something else?

Thanks

Visit www.pcpitstop.com and run the test.

Check your system to see if you have any unsigned drivers
that may be causing the problem.

Go to Start > Run and type: SIGVERIF , and hit enter.
