Hello Group, and Hopefully a Win MVP, The Windows HDD management is driving
me nutty. Why do I need to "install" my SATA drives MANUALLY each and every
time I start up.

Any way to get around this???? Or any way to get rid of it totally ?????

And why only SATA drives ????

My SCSI and IDE drives install automatically..... Why not also SATA drives
???????

It's really annoying and I do not want to manually "install" my drives all
the time.

Would using Windows 2000 solve the problem???? Will Windows 2000 support
SATA drives ???

What about Windows Vista ???? Or does Vista have the Windows Disc
management??

Thanks to all who reply.

You'll have to give us a bit more information to go on. What do you mean by
installing manually? What steps do you take to do this?

Do you mean to say that every time to "boot" the PC, you need to re-install
the SATA drivers?

You normally only need to install the SATA drivers during the installation of
XP. After that, XP is supposed to start up normally.

The principle reason is that the SATA standard came out after XP was released
for sale. Not only this but there seems to have several different interface
manufacturers and each seem to have different drivers.

You can re-created the XP install CD and merge (slipstream) the required
drivers.
