Win XP + MS Outlook 97 problem

Has anyone had a following problem:
Under Win XP Pro I have MS Outlook 97 instaleld. Sudenly when trying to send
a message with an atatched file (a CAD file of appr. 500 kb), Outlook 97
just keeps trying to send the message, even after a error message of MAPI
failure.
Now I can't remove the outgoing message, and all traffic to the ISP based
mail server is disabled, so I can't send or receive anything.

Is there another way to fix this without re-installing MS Outlook ?

If you are using an ISP I take it that you are using POP3 and SMTP.
Therefore upgrade (was free for Office 97 users) to Outlook 98. Outlook 98
has full support for Internet Email compared to Outlook 97.

I've tried something like this, I mean trying to get Outlook in "offline"
state, but the outbox still hangs, so that I can't delete the outgoing
message that is causing the problem.
