Win XP media center cannot connect to Windows Update

I have a HP Media Center PC with WinXP media center
installed. I am connected to the net via a cable modem
that distributes the signal through a Netgear router. Had
a Win 98SE machine connected to the router and could
access the entire net with no problems. I connected my new
computer and some pages fail to load and IE hangs! Yahoo
mail is one of the pages (when you actually want to view
your messages) and the Windows Update Website is another!
I have tried to label the Win Update site as a trusted
site, but it does not work. Anyone have ANY ideas about
WHY this is happening?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

either you have a firewall installed or some type of pop up blocker. Also check for spy ware. It sounds like a search bar redirect hijack. good luck
