Win XP ipconfig - internal error?

Am running Windows XP Home edition.
When I run ipconfig I receive the following error message:

Windows IP Configuration

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the
system is not functioning. Please contact Microsoft
Product Support Services for further help. Additional
information: Unknown media status code.

I have checked in Device Manager and there are no errors
all devices appear to be working properly.

I can obtain a netowrk connection to our LAN.

When I attempt to make a dial-up connection I am told that
I am authenticated and am connected. But when I try and
browse web pages I get Page cannot be displayed messages.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brad,
The IPCONFIG error commonly suggests that there is a problem
with a network device connected to your computer.

What is the model of your modem, where did you obtain the driver?
When no modem is connected, are you able to use ipconfig? (ie. is it
directly related to your modem?) Does it show IP address settings for your
other network adapters/does the error go away?

What type of modem is this? is it connected via USB? COM port? Internal?

As a test, disable your NIC then dial, and attempt to load a webpage. If it
works, then you may have a problem with your dial up connection settings.
You may need to set your dial up connection to use "use Default Gateway".
You can find this setting by clicking "properties" on the dial up connection
window- then clicking the "Network" tab, double click TCP/IP, click
"Advanced" and there will be an option for "use default gateway on remote
network". This should be enabled.

Make sure you have installed all the current windows updates especially
drivers. Please reply to the newsgroup with as much information as you can
provide regarding the modem, as it will help us to determine what the
problem is.

I fixed this exact problem

Do you have multiple network adapters? Try removing the adapters other than the one you are using for your current connection. [By going into the device manager and right clicking the adapter you want to remove]

You do not need to restart. Try ipconfig again. Good luck.
