First off all hello.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 PC with XP Home_SP2 on witch I can't install a
Ricoh Aficio 450.
First I used the build-in XP printer driver:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293381/ , but nothing [the printer was
instaled but there was no comunication between the PC and it.]
I checked the connections and everything was OK .
I tried ussing a newer driver:
http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/re/model/x35_45/x35_45en.htm , and
still no result.

I am writting this post because the same model of Ricoh (the Aficio 450) is
working just fine on a Windows 98 SE (OS is used by the supplier of the
copier whitch is saying that i should change my OS to Windows 98SE).

I would really appreciate somme advice.

Thanks,
Raul.

Hi,

When it comes to installing printers for the Operating systems, it is very
important that you install the driver which MATCHES the operating system
version. Otherwise the operating system will never detect/see the printer.

If you go to this website

http://support.ricoh.com/bb/html/dr_ut_e/ra/model/x35_45/x35_45en.htm

you will see that it is asking you to choose your operating system. And you
will have to select Windows XP (dont select Windows XP 64 unless your
operating system is a 64 bit version). And remove all the drivers from your
computer for that printer and then use the drivers that you downloaded.

And when you say that the same printer works with Windows 98 that is because
the correct version of the drivers is installed. if you see the link that i
gave you will see that there a seperate link for downloading the drivers for
windows 98. That is what makes the difference to your printer.
