Win XP Home start up funny

when I first start up windows, If I click on the start button, the menu
flickers real fast and is gone. I found that if I cntrl/alt/delete and open
the task manager and end task on ANY one of the non-essential applications
that are running, everything goes to normal and I can open the start menu OK.
Ther are not verry many items running. I have 2 gig of ram, I hav tons of fr
space on my hard drive.

I have run registry mechanic and norton utilities and have no registry
problems found.

I have tried restoring to an earlier time and that was no help.

I tried reinstalling windows using the repair option. No help.

Any Ideas?

Could it be..just a thought.. that the problem is with the keyboard and
just by using with the ctrl-alt-del sorts out the problem.
My logic - When you press the keys ctrl-alt-del I assume that this is
the first time you touch the keyboard in the session and closing any
task to cure makes no sense.
So. It may be a hardware issue with the keyboard OR you have a utility
program loading on start-up which is in distress - Look in MSCONFIG
(from start click Run.. type in MSCONFIG and click OK) and disable any
likely keyboard utility to isolate - If the utility is the problem you
may find you can live without it or download a new one from the
manufacturer's web site.
