Win XP Home....no My Computer

When clicking on My Computer or trying to open Control Panel, the screen
blanks, then returns to normal without opening the requested program. In
Safe Mode, it works fine. Have run Adaware, Symantec AV. No viruses were
found. A few spyware progs were detected and removed. There is a Searchbar
prog that cannot be removed from Safe Mode or Full mode. Full mode because I
can't open CP....Safe Mode because my network won't support it . So, there
you go. Anyone seen something like this? Thank you for your expertise.
