My XP version seems to run terrible it freezes multiple times a day my explorer freezes and i have CTL=ALT=DEL to end task this is very frustrating i have all the updates i tried system restore. I think it is a driver problem but how do i know which one why when where. it seems that the simplest programs freeze the computer.
AMD 2600 runing at 2.1 MHZ, 1G ram invidia 128MB graphics 120G hard drive i just dont see the problem. is it possible that i didnt change a jumper on the mother board. I upgraded from a 1G processor to the curent one old cpu was running 100fsb i changed it to run on 133fsb for new processsor which is supose to be 266 fsb for amd. also i changed power supply to 500w and now the computer will just turn off for no reason in a blink of an eye . CAN ANYONE HELP
JUSTIN

Did you use thermal paste when attaching the heatsink/fan to the CPU? And have you used a heatsink/fan rated for the 2600?

Interesting fact in that "heat" can cause "freezing". Even heat on the
video card ie some have fans that go bad or go too slow due to
grime/dust.

Of course these are just some things to check.

Hi Justin,

Run the cleaners mentioned here formost:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_c.htm#cleanup

You can use Event Viewer to view and manage the event logs, gather
information about hardware and software problems, and monitor Windows
security events.

To view the event log: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or
Start/Run/eventvwr.

To review Shutdown Event Tracker data, Open Event Viewer. Click System Log,
scroll to the Event column, and find entries with the number 1075.

And also:

Go to Start/Run/Msinfo32/Hardware Resources, Components/Problem Devices and
Software Environment/Windows Error Reporting.

Go to Help and Support/Pick a Task (left side)/Use Tools to view.../(left
pane)My Computer Information/(right pane)View the status of my system
hardware and software/Hardware/Update and Troubleshooters.

Try running the DirectX Tool: Start/Run/Dxdiag, Lower Hardware Acceleration
(Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot/Hardware Acceleration). Check
System Info for problematic issues: Start/Run/Msinfo32/Hardware Resources
and Components/Problem Devices and Software Environment/Windows Error
Reporting.
