WIn XP boots up very slowly
I just bought a new PC, Intel P4 HT 3.0 Ghz, 512 MB ram.
(S4)
After one week. the PC now starts up much slower.
I bought the PC last week, and then this PC started up
faster than my old PC (40 seconds)
My old PC AMD 2200+, 512 MB Ram (M1), (actually needs to
be re-installed), starts up much faster.

I have tested the start up time between the PC's and the
critical time is when the PC is 'hanging' in black mode
with the cursor blinking. (Level 4: S4 takes 70 seconds,
M1 takes only 6 seconds to process) I guess that drivers
are loading at that stage.
Any idea how to identify what happens and preferable how
to solve it? (any smart tool that can monitor the start up
process?

The process:

Windows start up
1. Push button

2. Intels P4 logo

3. Black screen, cursor blinking
in uppper left corner

4. Black screen with Windowslogo
and the 3 green dots running
from left to right in a bar (S4: 70 sec, M1: 6 sec)

5. Black screen again
(no cursur blinking)

6. Windows log on

7. Windows desktop blue screen apears

8. Windows desktop ready

Total start up time S4: 70 sec, M1: 50 sec)

Did Windows always boot slowly - from the very first day you turned your
computer on? If so, you need to discuss the problem with the OEM. If Windows
only recently started to load slowly, it is because of something that you
have done or not done. Think carefully of any changes you made to your
computer, no matter how minor in your estimation, since the first time you
first turned it on.
