Win XP asking for password after removing a virus

I removed a virus and now XP is asking me for a password,
however I never used a password. How can I get into win XP
without reloading my OS?

Which particular virus,Dave?
Might help in determining whether this is part of the
viruses repertoire,rather than a case for a reinstall.
