Windows xp conflicts with AOL 8.0. Windows
crashes/restarts the computer when launching the AOL
program. AOL says its a windows conflict - Does anyone
know how to fix this?

Thanks

There was a problem with early versions of 8.0 crashing in certain
circumstances. It was corrected by renaming dsl.cct to dsl.bak in the "Tools"
subfolder of the AOL 8.0 folder(Yeah, I know; I don't get it either!). If you
picked up a free disk from a store it may be an older version. The current
version of 8.0+ doesn't exhibit this behaviour nor does 9.0.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I remember making this change a long
time ago, but could not find my notes as to which file it
was to edit - Of course this happened after making
changes to my aol setup and could not go back to the
original setup......so thank you

My problem with AOL 8.0 and Windows XP is that I can't get setup to use the AOL
dialer. It connects through a "WAN" (TCP/IP) 1394 Net Adapter. I read an MSKB
article (306478) that said that the AOL 8 network adapter "doesn't work" with
Windows XP and suggests installing AOL 7.

I don't get crashes, but I do get annoying freeze-ups, and can never access AOL
online help. Always, "Web site not responding. 502 hangup."

Could these be related to your issue?

I'm frustrated.
