If I establish an new partition, can I install WIN 98SE in that partition
and then run with WIN 98 SE as my operating system?

No. Windows 98 can only be installed first before
any newer operating system is ever installed.

Yes, but only under certain conditions:
a) If your system partition uses FAT32 rather than NTFS and
if you subsequently repair the WinXP boot environment, or
b) If you use a third-party boot manager.

Neither method is simple. Installing Microsoft Virtual PC might
be an easier solution:

You've already gotten answers to your question, but may I ask why you
want to do this?

Are you trying to run a particular program that XP doesn't like? What
program? Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

I have a Visioneer copier that works fine with WIN 98SE.
When I try to run it with XP I receive the following message: Paperport
cannot load the file C:\PAPRPORT\MAXLINKS.DLL and the program will not run.
The file refereed to exists. Visioneer no longer supports this model.
I have changed the computability by right clicking on the icon but that has
no effect.
I don't know if installing the program on the WIN98SE partition will help or
not but I was going to give it a try.
