Win 98 / IE 6 Freezing Problem

I am running Win 98 with IE 6. When I close out of IE 6, I am unable to
perform any functions on the pc for upwards of one minute. Basically the
computer locks up until IE 6 finishes closing in the background. (Meaning
that the IE 6 browser is visually closed but apparently still running) I
have tried closing all programs in the Close Program function, except
systray and explorer. I have tried running MSINFO32 and the Microsoft
MCREPAIR patch. I did run BHODemon and the only two items that appeared
were associated with Adobe and Norton. I did not disable those files. I
have tried disabling Norton also. So far, none of the above recommended
fixes have solved the ongoing problem. Hopefully someone in this newsgroup
will be able to offer some more ideas.

Thanks for any suggestions

sounds like scumware running, also ie6 does not play well
with 98, i would roll back to 5.5 maybe another ram
stick would help.

Thank you. Have run AdAware and SpyBot. Am maxed out on RAM.

What is the best way to revert to 5.5? Can I install 5.5 over 6 or do I
have to unistall 6 and then install 5.5?

Thanks,
June
