Win 98 Can't see XP Network

Networking an existing network for a friend. Network consists of 4 XP, 3 ME
and 3 Win 98 machines. The network hub is a linksys 16 port w/a Linksys
DSL/Cable router. All CP's have internet access. All XP machines can see each
other. After using Network Wizard floppy, ME CP's and one Win 98 CP poped
onto the network without a hitch. The last two Win 98 CP's are blind to the
network ("Unable to browze network") All other CP's can see and transfer
files to and from the two blind CP's. I've matched setting and protocals
with the working Win 98 system and still won't work. Both CP's can access
the internet but not the network. You can manually ping any CP on the
network but still can't "see" the network in network neighborhood. I've
tried uninstalling and reinstalling different settings but nothing works.
I'm probally overlooking something simple . Any Idea's??

Are you running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing
for Microsoft Networks (Local Area Connection - Properties), on each computer?
Do you have shares setup on each?

Are you running NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (Local Area Connection - Properties - TCP/IP
- Properties - Advanced - WINS) on each computer, including Win 98 and ME?

Make sure the browser service is running on each XP computer, and disable it on
each Win 98 and ME computer. Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services.
Verify that the Computer Browser, and the TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, services both
show with Status = Started, on the XP computers ONLY.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
